Can You Imagine?

Can you imagine growing up without the unconditional love of a Daddy and Mommy?

Johanna can.

Can you imagine coming home from school over and over again to find that yet another one of your friends has been adopted and you were left behind?

Johanna did.

Can you imagine looking in the mirror and convincing yourself that the reason YOU were not chosen by a family must be because you are "SO ugly!"?

Johanna does.

Can you imagine asking your new Daddy and Mommy why you weren't adopted as a baby like your sisters?

Johanna did.

Can you imagine being so happy with your new-found family that, in all seriousness, you inform them that "I not want to be a big girl. I not want to grow up. If I grow up I have to leave you. I want to stay with you forever"?

Johanna has.

  2. No, I can't imagine. And I'm sad that any child has to go through this. When will the sleeping giant (the church) wake up and really do something about this?

  4. Oh Sweet Girl! So young with so many deep wounds that no one should ever have to suffer. Praying for God to move in and heal the wounds and help her forgive those who have so deeply hurt her. Praise God she is with a family who loves her now!!! She can look forward with such confidence that she will never EVER be called "orphan" again! She is CHOSEN and she is SPECIAL! What a blessing for her and for you to be able to have front row seats in God's beautiful story of redemption!

  7. Please tell her (again) that she is beautiful- for me. God made her beautiful and courageous. May she grow to know the Lord better and better and let Him use her to serve Him and others.

  8. These same things are running through my mind about my own future daughter. I held it together very well until I heard that she frequently asks the orphanage staff if they've found her a family yet. Hopefully, someone has finally told her that, yes, she does now have a family, and explained to her that it takes time for them to arrive to get her. Like your daughter, mine has seen friend after friend be adopted. I'm sure once she's home and learning English that her heart-wrenching story will emerge.

Joanna is beautiful, inside and out, and, most of all, she is a beloved Child of God and child of parents who love her.

  10. What a beautiful girl!! I have followed your adoption journey for probably a year now, and have enjoyed seeing your two new additions join the family.

  11. I think it is an awfully big burden to place on a child - feeling that you rescued her, feeling that she OWES you something. I know this is not your intention but I would be really careful about presenting Johanna's life this way because this is what adopted children read into words like this. I've read your blog for some time now and I know that you are an amazing mum, so I give this thought to you with the kindest of intentions.

What Johanna has now is simply what every child deserves.
